Who should attend

Healthcare Professionals whose role requires them to take blood

Course Objectives

To include taking of blood cultures for qualified staff that are required to undertake the procedure for their role.

Course Programme

The candidate will learn to take blood for routine ”out of hours” blood samples
The session covers;
Legal and Ethical Issues
Anatomy and Physiology of the arm
Venepuncture procedure
Complications.
Theory is followed by practical session where candidates have the opportunity to practice the skill using manikins. Once competent on the manikin the candidate is then required to undergo a period of supervised practice in the Clinical Area
Once competence is achieved here, the final assessment will take place and the candidates will then be able to take blood unsupervised.
NB please note this course DOES NOT COVER the taking of Blood for Blood Transfusion.
