Registered Nurses/ ODP's who would like to update their IV Skills

Course Objectives

Able to safely and competently administer IV Drugs and Fluids, via peripheral vascular access devices including peripheral cannula and midlines. Session also covers use of Medusa, Methods and Considerations, Infection prevention, Hazards and Complications. Treatment of Anaphylaxis and review of A-E approach and Drug Calculations and care of midlines

Course Programme

The candidate will learn to administer IV Drugs and Fluids,

The session covers;
Legal and ethical issues, methods of IV administration via peripheral lines including cnnula and midlines, Infection Prevention, Hazards and Complications, Anaphylaxis, Drug calculations and Medusa guide and care and maintenance of midlines

Theory is followed by practical sessions where candidates have the opportunity to practice the skills using manikins. Once competent on the manikin the candidate is then required to undergo a period of supervised practice in the Clinical Area (iv drug administration only)

Once competence is achieved, the final assessment will take place in the clinical area and the candidates will then be able to administer IV Fluids and drugs via a peripheral IV line without supervision
