Ear Irrigation Study Day

A practical session supported by a theory base designed to give Registered Nurses more confidence when dealing with ear problems. Nurses who have undertaken this course will be able to perform ear irrigation and manual removal of wax more safely, reducing patient discomfort and speeding up resolution of problems.

Who should attend

Registered Nurses

If possible, please bring an otoscope with you.

Course Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basic anatomy and physiology of the ear
  • Understand the prevention of ear problems
  • Describe the correct decontamination of equipment
  • Correctly document procedures relating to ear care
  • Undertake ear care safely within the boundaries and limits of their professional competence, responsibility and accountability
  • Understand hearing loss and tinnitus and know where to refer patients when problem arise
  • Complete a competence record consistent with their indvidual level of skill and knowledge
