Who should attend
Healthcare Assistants and Assistant Practitioners - Also the Registered Nurse who will act as mentor should attend Day 1. This is included in the cost and acts as an update for them.
If possible, please bring an otoscope with you.
Course Objectives
Participants will have:
An understanding of the basic anatomy and physiology of the ear
An understanding of the prevention of ear problems
A foundation of knowledge on which to base practical ear irrigation according to their own level of competence
Reflected on accountability and documentation in relation to ear care
Considered the patient with ear problems holistically
Thought about the future management of people with ear problems
Developed the ability to undertake ear care within the boundaries and limits of their competence, responsibility and accountability
Achieved competencies as documented in their handbook, consistent with their individual level of skill and knowledge.

10.30 Otoscopy practice
11.30 The theory of irrigation. Documentation
12.30 Lunch
13.30 Demonstration of irrigation
13.45 Practical workshop on dummy heads. Quiz
15.00 Decontamination of equipment
15.15 Hearing loss and tinnitus
15.45 Accountability and delegation - discussion
16.00 Evaluation/certificates.
Day 2
09.30 Revision
10.40 Role play - practical workshop with dummy heads
11.45 Written test
12.30 Lunch
13.30 Individual discussion with tutor
15.30 Evaluations/Close.

Once completed the delegates will need to complete 10 observed irrigations and then 10 supervised irrigations
